software programs on the market. I encourage you to talk with me or someone knowledgeable about the astrology software programs available so that you can find the one that is right for you.

Note to Mac Users: The software programs described below are grouped by Windows based programs and Mac based programs. Kepler, Sirius, Pegusus, Solar Fire and WinStar can run on a Mac as long as the Mac has an Emulator and Windows. The programs below listed under the Mac based software are written specifically for Mac computers and do not need the Emulator or Windows.
Please read this article which explains the requirements for running a windows based program on your Mac. Of all programs listed below, I.O. Astrology Software is the only program that can't run on a Windows based system. All other programs have a Windows version.
Summary for Windows Based Astrology Software
There are five major competitors for Windows based astrology software programs designed primarily for tropical western astrology. These include Kepler, Sirius, Solar Fire, WinStar, and TimePassages. Though each program can meet your professional needs, they are also great for amateurs as well. There are some differences between each program. I have described some of these basic differences below and have also provided a link for more detailed information about each program.

Summary of Macintosh Based Astrology Software
There are five software programs designed specifically for Macintosh computers. These include I.O. Astrology Software, TimePassages, Parasara's Light, Shri Muhurta and Bookshelf. I.O and TimePassages are designed for tropical western astrology while Parasara's Light, Shri Muhurta and Bookshelf are Vedic astrology programs.
Summary of Express or Simplified Astrology Software
There are three software programs available that are simpler express versions of professional programs. One is called Pegasus, which is the junior version of Kepler. Another is called WinStar Express, which is the abbreviated version of WinStar. The other is the Basic Edition of TimePassages . Each program has basic features for chart calculation along with some other features. More information is included below.
Summary of Vedic Astrology Software
As already mentioned, Parasara's Light, is a comprehensive professional astrology program for Vedic astrology. Shri Muhurta calculates Vedic Electional Astrology. Bookshelf, is a classical Vedic library. All three are available in both Mac and Windows versions.

Kepler Astrology Software
Kepler is a very comprehensive software program. It has all the latest
technical bells and whistles offered in astrology software. There are many additional add-on report options available. Kepler is one of the leaders in add on reports. If you are interested in starting report service in addition to your astrology practice, Kepler has many options available.
A plus with Kepler Software is that
it includes some extras like the Avalon School of Astrology lessons, extra reports that are included with the basic software, an advanced astrocartigraphy system, research capabilities, some Vedic options and more.
Kepler/Sirius/Pegasus Add on Report Options
Cosmic Patterns is the developer of Kepler, Sirius and Pegasus
Software. In addition to the software, Cosmic Patterns offers a wide variety of add on reports for purchase.
Sirius Astrology Software
After 4 years of intense programming, Cosmic Patterns has released Sirius, the most comprehensive astrology
software program on the market. It contains everything

Solar Fire Astrology Software
Solar Fire also has all the latest bells and whistles. It too contains built-in natal, transit and relationship reports.
Like Kepler, it is designed for professional astrologers who are serious about their
profession. And, like Kepler, it can also be used by amateurs because it is very
user friendly and easy to learn. It also has some basic built in reports with the software.
Matrix/WinStar Astrology Software
Matrix Software, makers of WinStar, is also a professional astrology software. It
has a vast selection of astrological report writers you can purchase. These report writers are available
as stand alone software in that you may purchase them without purchasing the WinStar software.
As with Kepler and Solar Fire, Matrix Software is a professional astrology
software package but also for amateurs as well. Built in natal, relationship and transit reports are not included with the basic program though it does have some pop up information about various parts of the chart.
WinStar comes in three versions: Win*Star, Win*Star Extended and Win*Star Professional System. These are outlined in more detail by clicking on the link to WinStar above.
AstroGraph TimePassages Astrology Software
TimePassages from AstroGraph Software is another software package with both
professional and amateur versions. You may choose
between the Basic, Standard and Advanced Versions. I think you will find that the reports included
with TimePassages Software are much more comprehensive than what you find as standard
free reports with other software programs. However, there are less built in reports and you can't print or sell them without a commercial license. This software is used by professionals and
amateurs alike. The advantage is that it is more reasonably priced than some of the
other professional astrology software. By purchasing a commercial license, you may also print and sell the reports that are included.
